consider, now, the interesting way in which schoolwork can tax you to every single kind of extreme:
1. physical fatigue
source: everything
reaching school at the early hour of 0700, trying to keep awake and enthusiastic thorought lectures and tutorials, going for cca after that which lasts till insane hours, taking the close to 2-hour bus ride home, reaching home at 2100 the earliest, and staying up in a bid to do homework and finally only getting 3 hours of sleep a day.
symptoms: snoozing in class
2. mental frustration
source: maths/physics tutorials and possibly complex stochiometry/energetics calculation questions
staring at the question over and over again, almost unable to write anything because the concepts dont click in the mind. unsolvable equations. too many variables and other pieces of data to be considered. lucky for me this situation tends to end nicely with that triumphant moment of realisation and satisfaction. but sadly not all the time.
symptoms: completely blank tutorial questions
3. tedious work
source: bio tutorials and chem bonding questions. i hate explaining why boiling/melting points are different with a vengeance.
everythings up in the head. the topic is completely grapsed, no doubts whatsoever. probably would ace a test. that, however, does not excuse one from doing tutorials. tutorials chock-full of questions basically just asking for regurtitation of pages of pages of notes. stating the same concepts over and over again. forced due to high self language standards to write in perfect grammar. my pens ink level actually goes down by a noticable amout whenever i finish a tutorial of this sort.
symptoms: extreme boredom and frustration mixed, well done but half-finished questions due to losing patience halfway
4. information overload
source: bio tests/exams
cramming every last small detail in ~80+ pages of notes into your head. nuff said.
symptoms: indirectly contributes to physical fatigue
5. mental block
source: physics/maths test
O SHITZ I FORGETS THE FORMULAEZ FOR ZEEZ QUESTION!!!! WTH R EELASTIC COLLISON?!?! *stares blankly at question for ~10 minutes before giving up and moving on*
symptoms: incomplete test papers
6. zibei&die
source: blatant careless mistakes in tests, competition for marks
getting back the test paper, feeling the bottom drop out of your world due to not getting an A (or not failing, depending on personal academic ability and subject)...flipping open the test paper desperately trying to look for marking mistakes or errors in addition of marks. HOLY SHIT. x^2 - 2x + 1 write until become x^2 + 2x + 1. no error-carry forward. ~5/40 marks gone just like that. other people whooping in joy at their own As.
symptoms: depression
so, after hours on end of doing physics, then switching to even more hours on end of bio tutorial, i think ive probably experienced enough of no. 2 and 3 for quite some time. it was so tempting to just go to sleep since theres always sunday. however, i have stuff on the agenda on sunday i so do not want to sacrifice. a solid few hours at the piano hammering out moonlight 3 and pathetique 3. losing myself in the cyberworld of dota for a good few rounds. even more mugging for lecture test on monday. playing table tennis with family. going out for a nice family meal. sleeping damn early to clear all sleep debt.
school drains off all the simple pleasures in life
but replaces them with better ones...
