long long overdue post

it was sad enough watching the 33rd step down on stage last year, even as we were happily getting invested. but when it came to our turn it was downright tear-jerking. of course, while the rest of the council was sadly singing the batch song i was furiously concentrating on playing the piano correctly so i didnt have the mental capacity to feel emotional. this time round i only played 1 mistake...much better than during invest. but at the last stanza of the stepping-down song, the tears started trickling.

and surprisingly, i am the model councillor of the year! well even though i still dont feel deserving of such an honour, i am happy that the 34th thinks highly enough of me to vote for me to receive such an accolade. of course though, if the exco were eligible for the award it would like immediately go to stanley/claire...so its a bit more hollow than it sounds.

ive been in council for half my high school + jc life. but the 34th is the council i am most emotionally attached to by far. lightyears far. when i was in the aphelion council in sec 2-3 i basically did lots of saikang like moving tables and chairs. being severely outclassed in people skills and admin skills by the top high school councillors eg yuan chang stanley i never took on any significant role then. (in fact my roles were like the lowest of the low - food/refreshments i/c). its still moderately fulfilling but you cant escape the feeling that you are just one faceless member of a huge saikang group.

in the 34th it was radically different. i found a perfect niche in the council for myself, which would have never happened in high school. the college council isnt about the upper elcheons being dominated by administrators and the lower-downs being relegated to saikang. my IT skills, musical talents, creativity and even my scientific and mathematical knowledge were applicable to my jobscopes. with the way my roles fit my talents so nicely its hard not to do a good job. plus i feel infinitely more valued. when i presented my jumpstart website in o1 formals jaws dropped and echos of "so nice" and "imba" resonate. and my elections ipod websites actually had people outside council complimenting its design. and according to kheexuan the j1s love their batch song as well. and instead of being relegated to some minor role in the events, i actually got the most monumental of them all - the MAF grand light up and o1 wargames! and i went on to excel at them, in my own creative style.

luck has shone on me throuought my council term - even the pitfalls ended up being blessings in disguise. to think that i once hoped to be a faculty head, and then a dance ic...thankfully those posts were denied me and i got placed into a job i eventually grew to love. plus i got the best working partners/superiors i could ever ask for. special mention goes to wei guo and stanley. pubco's atmosphere is the one that best suits me too...unlike the crazy ones in ecaco and snr.

i really miss everyone in the 34th. especially wei guo, stanley, pei wen and khee xuan. and i miss the council room too. the physical manifestations of not being a councillor anymore are small; just the absence of the round badge. the emotional void, however, is worthy of any supermassive black hole.

it has been a joy. it has been a thrill. it has been an honour.
