examples:
i am a gengar facing a metagross, which i need 2 thunderbolts to kill. metagross has agility, and after it uses that it will outspeed and kill me in one hit. i thunderbolt and he uses agility, but my thunderbolt paralyses cutting his speed to 25%. he dies to the next thunderbolt.
i am a jirachi facing a gengar, who has destiny bond. the gengar is at roughly half health and will surely die to psychic but not thunderbolt. what happens? he destiny bonds, and i thunderbolt and leave him at 2%hp. at this point the sandstorm in effect promptly kills him and my jirachi lives.
i am a regice facing huang pei's snorlax. i ice beam it and freeze it. and it stays frozen for 6 turns, allowing my zapdos to get 5 thunderbolts on it while it does nothing, turning a confirmed loss into a win.
and the ultimate one:
my last pokemon is aerodactyl and he has 4 pokemon left, a half-health weezing and a fresh heracross+blissey+magneton. in such circumstances im lucky if i can even kill one of his pokemon before i lose, but luck comes to the rescue in the most spectacular fashion ive ever seen:
turn 1: aerodactyl used rock slide! a critical hit! (52% dmg) weezing fainted!
heracross replaces weezing
turn 2: aerodactyl used rock slide! (80% dmg) heracross flinched!
salac berry increases heracross's speed
turn 3: heracross used reversal! (80% dmg)
aerodactyl used rock slide! (20% dmg) heracross fainted!
blissey replaces heracross
turn 4: aerodactyl used rock slide! a critical hit! (90% dmg) blissey flinched!
turn 5: aerodactyl used rock slide! (10% dmg) blissey fainted!
magneton replaces blissey
turn 6: aerodactyl used rock slide! (36% dmg) magneton flinched!
at this point my luck ran out and i died to thunderbolt. but seriously, to turn a landslide loss into a almost win is imba
if one goes to las vegas with the kind of luck i have, he will never need to do another day of work in his life O_O
