i really like songs that are sung by a choir in a foreign language. the combined might of the entire choir exudes a power that makes the song incredibly epic, and i love music with the epic feeling (ssbb music ftw). the foreign language part makes the song have more depth and mystery - if it were in plain, straightforward old english or chinese there would be no more layered meanings under the surface. pop songs are so shallow that way. and its even better if the foreign language is one so out-of-the-way that no one uses it for conversational purposes. here are my favourite songs of these kind:
Neodammerung - The Matrix Revolutions
gottedammerung is a german opera piece composed by richard wagner, meaning "Twilight of the Gods". Superimpose "Neo" on and you get "Twilight of Neo". This music accompanies the most climatic scene of the entire triology - the final showdown between Neo and Smith. for an apocalyptic battle that will either save or doom the world, the music is suitably intense. fitting of a life-and-death struggle between two titans.
the song's lyrics are in sanskrit(!) and apparantly they are taken from some religious text as well, which complements the Matrix's large collection of religious/philosophical/metaphysical references. the dignity of the lyrics is another factor that makes it so nice. imagine starting a battle with prayers "From delusion lead me to truth, From darkness lead me to light, From death lead me to immortality." this is a damn cool song.

Song of Fire Emblem
this song has finally convinced me that fire emblem music is worth listening to. its a nice uplifting song, and sounds like a proud anthem sung by noble warriors defending their country. fire emblem has alot of western historical references and the use of brass instruments, especially the horns, emphasise on that. i have very few impressions of fire emblem to write about, but this is a very good one. the lyrics are in latin - another out-of-the-way language. but unfortunately only the english translation has been released thus far.
