i am sorely lacking of experience in the endgame maneuvers of chinese chess. when i was young i had a few international chess books and computer programs that taught me many tactics, and i also studied the endgame in great detail. so given any winnable combination of pieces i know how to go for the kill. not so in chinese chess. today it was ju pao dui ju...which should already be enough to kill...but i had to enlist the aid of 2(!) more guo he bings to finally corner and kill. then afterwards huang pei showed me the correct technique and i felt quite stupid. after my a levels i think i should go and buy chinese chess books to go and read
anyway i just rediscovered an old gem in my batman begins OST. the disc was mostly forgotten since i bought it in either 2005 or 2006, partly because i didnt think the batman begins movie was exceptionally nice. but this year the dark knight totally blew me away, and im glad i havent lost this CD when i revisited it tonight.
you know how the two batman movies are so dark, brooding and intense? this soundtrack nails all of those emotions perfectly, especially the soundtracks designed for the chase scenes. you have tubas and double-basses blasting the lowest notes at you from all directions in onimous rhythms and minor key chord progressions. and the base drums and other low percussion instruments are on overdrive too. its enough to make me shiver even though im not in the cinema watching things blow up on the screen. in fact listening to it pumped me so full of adrenaline that i was able to stave off ALL sleepiness while doing my bio tutorial.
hm, i definately owe it to myself to swing by HMV one day and pick up the OST of the dark knight.
