the winner of this year's nobel prize in chemistry goes to the people who discovered and did research on the Green Fluoroscence Protein (GFP).
GFP has definitely been a hell lot useful in biological research as a marker gene. but really, when compared to the magnitude of some of the previous winners of the chemistry prize, especially the earlier ones who discovered very fundamental stuff such as kinetics, equilibrium, radioactivity etc a simple protein seems to pale in comparison from a chemical standpoint.
alfred nobel really should have set up another nobel prize in biology to deal with biological research that cannot come under the medicine prize...
but i was reading about the GFP on wikipidea today and i came across something really beautiful :D
