and thus, BMT nears conclusion.
there is one thing i do not like very much in myself, and it is incompetence. my abilities are concentrated in my mental faculties rather than my physical ones, and they have served me well over the course of my school life. from being close to the top of the academic food chain for so long, being taken down to the bottom-middle area of the fitness one is quite a bad fall.
my chin-ups are epic fail. from five in jc to zero in tekong! its really irritating because my ippt scores are gold-grade stuff except for the dumb chin-ups. even a pass is denied me! in fact, arm strength has been the crux of all my problems in BMT. im failing ippt because of the chin-ups, and im failing my soc because i cant swing on the swing trainer and cant climb up the low rope.
in spite of this, though, i am definitely the fittest i have ever been in my life, thanks to lugging my field pack, rifle and lbv almost everywhere. my achievements are perhaps best described by the improvements in my ippt results. running 9.40 for 2.4km, improving from a measly 27 sit-ups to 45, restoring my SBJ to 260++ etc. even my chin-ups have almost gone back to the level they once were.
obviously the new experiences have also taught me much. from having to do my own chores such as toilet cleaning and laundry, to soldiering skills such as shooting and throwing grenades. certainly stuff i would not have learned in school. i will definitely be more prepared for independant life after i am done with ns.
but the thing i really want to thank ns life for is for making me realise how fantastic my family is, and how much i love them.
BMT hasnt been enjoyable, but it has definitely been memorable and character-building. more on a levels once the results come out, i guess.
